Fortnite is back online with an entirely new map, new challenges, lots and lots of little gameplay changes that we’re still figuring out and a whole new world to explore.
The opening cinematic for the new season taps into that sense of exploration, as our small band of Battle Pass heroes embarks on an adventure through this strange new land, filled with both old and new locations.
They fish for weapons, get into various shenanigans and basically get us all hyped to actually jump into a match. Check it out:
The crazy thing is that this trailer isn’t quite like the one you’ll play when you go into the game itself. Mild spoilers here, but at the part where Jonesy jumps out of the Battle Bus, that’s when your first match starts.
You default to the game’s most famous Default Skin, and find yourself up above the new map (which has its own surprising twist) gliding down to chart new waters, find new guns and hopefully win that sweet Victory Royale.
In other words, the whole thing ends when the cinematic is over. All the gameplay stuff you’ll only see in the YouTube version since it cuts off when you jump out of the bus into an actual match. But you won’t get that cool effect of going straight from cinematic to being in game simply by watching.
It’s a very clever way to do this and I have to give Epic credit for such an incredible launch to a new chapter. Chapter 2, Season 1 is already shaping up to be something special. What do you think so far?
