Sony Reveals ‘Fall Guys’ Is The Most Downloaded PS Plus Game In History – Forbes

Fall Guys was trying to emulate the success of Rocket League when they aimed for a feature on Sony’s PS Plus free games list. And now it seems they’ve surpassed it.

Sony has announced today that Fall Guys is the most downloaded game in PS Plus history, a significant achievement for a program that has featured dozens of AAA hits over the years and has millions of players racing to download most new offerings every month no matter what they are.

Sony is not giving out numbers for how many downloads it got, nor is it saying what it replaced as the number one most downloaded PS Plus game, but I believe that according to this 10 year anniversary infographic, the top 5 before this were:

  1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered
  2. Sonic Forces
  3. Shadow of the Colossus
  4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  5. Destiny 2

So yes, Fall Guys has apparently beaten out all of those. The game has rocketed to popularity on Twitch, where every big name streamer you’ve ever heard of has tried to log on for some crowns, as the game is tailor made for “antics” on stream. But it’s just a fun, all-ages, all-skill levels game that anyone can play.

Speaking personally, this is the first PS Plus game I’ve bothered to redeem in my while, and I’ve been playing it with my wife, a non-gamer whose last major title she went through was the Crash Bandicoot remaster. But at its core, Fall Guys is a platformer with exactly 2-3 buttons you need to press in most of its minigames, and we’ve had a blast trying and failing to collect wins in the last few weeks. And I know a bunch of parents who have done the same with their kids (and had better luck than we have had).

Fall Guys is about to announce its “season 2” tomorrow, which means new skins and such to collect as you rank up, and new minigames too. It will leave PS Plus at the end of the month and will be on sale for $20 in the store. There is still no word on when it might come to Xbox One and Switch instead of just PS4 and PC, but the PS Plus deal likely has some sort of stipulation that it can’t come to rival consoles for X number of months. It took Rocket League 7 months to hit Xbox after its PS Plus debut, for instance. The game is spooling up a mobile release, however, but for now that’s only in China.

There’s also no word about “next gen” Fall Guys on PS5, but I mean, come on, do we really think that’s not going to happen?

Now we’ll see how the game performs once people actually have to pay for it on PlayStation, but just remember to download it in the next week, and you won’t have to.
